Achieving your ambitions is not given to everyone.
It becomes essential to prepare yourself for your dreams, to plan for success and for obstacles.
To prepare yourself for your dreams, you have to gain in self-awareness.
Who are you? Where are you? What do you want? These 3 questions will help you identify and pursue your ambitions, gain in confidence and in clarity.
Indeed, before going after your dreams, you must be honest with yourself, understand who you truly are and your motivations for your actions.
You have to look past your fears, failures and negative emotions. What is going on underneath the surface?
To find out where you are going, it is important to assess your current situation so you know what to modify and what to improve on.
Furthermore, to figure out what you want in the long run, you have to look at everything that you have done and curated for yourself so far.
Now that you know yourself better, it is time to size up your ambitions and put them into context. Does your ambition have a specific meaning? Does it have a long life shelf? Is it in service to others? Will it create a legacy? Is is feasible?
It becomes detrimental to plan for your dreams and then plan some more.
You don’t have to rush through the process.
Instead, you can identify yourself as a student and be a student of life.
Your curiosity will probe you to ask a lot of questions, especially to the people you admire.
There will be many obstacles in your way but you really have to keep at it. When you think you have remove all obstacles, expect some more.
You may have to explore various opportunities and endure different experiences before attaining your goals.
You will have to learn to find people you trust, to move forward when you fail, to select the right opportunities and to preserve your time and energy.
In addition, you will have to get rid of the habits, limiting beliefs and patterns that hold you back. Needless to say, your fears won’t go away on their own.
In case you fail, plan your response to the failure, admit it and be proud for going after your dreams. Failure happens and you must resist the urge to give up.
You don’t have it all figured out but now you are more self-aware, knowledgeable about your dreams and have a plan. You can start working on your dreams and downloading them into reality.
To stay on track of your dreams, you have to learn to say no respectfully and effectively.
Then, you can use your current ambition to build up another one and your failures to focus on your next move.
Furthermore, some ambitions are easy to achieve and others aren’t. Acting on your dreams requires that you make yourself available to people and opportunities that fit your ambitions.
To pursue your ambitions, you are going to need a strong community around you to keep you sane and on track.
To find a community, you have to get to know people, take up genuine interest in others and their ambitions, be available and present.
Dream Big: Know What You Want, Why You Want It, and What You’re Going to Do About It by Bob Goff is written for people who always suspected that there is more to their life, who wish to acquire success principles, to make real moves, who are serious about their dreams and want to advance them.
Dream Big: Know What You Want, Why You Want It, and What You’re Going to Do About It will help you reframe your mindset, especially if you are used to dreaming or having your dreams shut down. It doesn’t have all the answers but definitely motivates and shares good success principles.
Using his personal experiences as support, Bob Goff does not introduce us to new life principles.
However, he provides us with a different, positive and sincere perspective on success that can inspire people.
It is strongly faith-based. Even though your system of belief lies elsewhere, you can always extract valuable principles from this book.
This book will help you get unstuck, on your way to executing your dreams and tending to your own fire.
Never give up on your dreams!
Make no mistake, identifying and pursuing your ambitions is going to take a lot of courage and clarity.
[…]there is massive power in self-awareness. Don’t overlook or underestimate it. It’s not indulgent to spend some time reflecting on your life; in fact, it’s foolish not to.
Life can be delightfully wonderful, and it can also be punishingly difficult.
The path to your ambitions is not one long race; it’s a series of wind sprints that eventually covers the distance of a marathon.
Who you are right now is an accumulation of all you’ve done and all that’s happened to you. Some beliefs have limited you; perhaps you’ll discover more that will launch you.

Managers tend to manage goals, budgets, deadlines, clients, people and projects.
Whereas, leaders influence, empower, guide a team or a group of people towards a specific vision.
Most for the time, these terms are used interchangeably.
Sometimes, the line between managers and leaders get blurred because both leaders and managers have to make sure that their teams are successful and that their organization benefit from their intervention.
Managers oversee the short-term metrics, execute tasks and help others execute tasks in order to reach these metrics.
On the contrary, leaders pay attention to long-term goals, overall progress and drive change.
Managers punctually correct mistakes and set people back on track.
Leaders value growth and provide solutions so that their team don’t make the same mistakes.
On one hand, managers are task-oriented individuals. They encourage their team to achieve each tasks and reach each goals.
On the other hand, leaders are people-oriented. They delegate tasks and trust that their team will achieve them.
Managers build team-cohesion and motivate people to do their job.
However, leaders build trust, motivate and encourage others to contribute to the team and to the organization.
Managerial roles usually come with a title and expect team members to individually take care of their problems.
Leaders are able to do the opposite and to lead without a title. Leaders lead by example, advice their team and transform problems into solutions.
Managers impregnate themselves with the company culture and the vision for the organization. They help their team members align themselves with the principles of the organization and to maintain the company culture.
Contrarily, leaders have purpose, have a vision, core beliefs for themselves and their organization that they are able to share with their team. They build the culture.
Leadership and management are not mutually exclusive.
Sometimes, managers and leaders have overlapping yet critical roles.
Furthermore, there is no right or wrong way to lead or to manage:

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz gathers four “agreements” to live by to ensure a better lifestyle, a deeper understanding of life, a life in the moment.
The four agreements come from the Toltec teachings of wisdom. The goal of this book is to make each agreement a habit.
An agreement is:
It represents the rules that we abide to, that we pass down from generation to generation.
Unfortunately, we have not chosen the agreements that we live by. Most of the time, they have been chosen for us and have existed longer than we have.
The first agreement is to be “impeccable with your words“. This means that you must be careful of not using words against yourself and others.
Indeed, there is power in the words that you use. Matter of fact, it is the most powerful tool at your disposal.
You can use your words to create beauty or to wreak havoc.
“What you dream, what you feel, and what you really are, will all be manifested through the word”.
What you dream, what you feel, and what you really are, will all be manifested through the word. Click To Tweet
Being “impeccable with your words” helps you suppress any toxicity from your mind, free your mind from fear and doubt, and filter out negativity.
Furthermore, words grow and take root in your mind if you are not careful. So:
The second agreement is to not “take anything personally”.
Often times, people are preoccupied with their own beliefs, feelings and opinions about themselves that they take out on others.
Even if they insult you directly, it is wise not to take their insult personally.
This agreement is necessary to avoid burdening yourself with people’s problem, setting “yourself up to suffer for nothing”.
Acquiring this habit will help you free yourself, keep your heart open, see people for who they really are, and be unaffected by fear.
Understand that:
The third agreement consists in not making assumptions.
Undeniably, assumptions are not the truth and breeds problems.
The third agreement will help you build better relationships and increase your communication skills.
To properly implement this agreement:
This fourth agreement encourages you to always “do you best” and consolidates all previous three agreements.
Forming the habit of always doing your best will:
Keep in mind that:
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz provides a very powerful perspective on life. It encourages self-transformation, self-awareness, self acceptance, and the understanding of others.
I found out briefly that The Four Agreements, yet short, is thoughtful and goes straight to the point. It calls out society’s hypocrisy, fear and domestication.
Everyone I know who have read this book has felt elevated. It was therefore hard to resist reading it and I have to say that I did not regret it.
As you read, you will find that you already had the knowledge and the wisdom within you but have been holding it back. You will learn to trust yourself and set yourself free.
The word is not just a sound or a written symbol. The word is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think, and thereby to create the events in your life.
Whatever people do, feel, think, or say, don’t take it personally.
Even the opinions you have about yourself are not necessarily true; therefore, you don’t need to take whatever you hear in your own mind personally.
All the sadness and drama you have lived in your life was rooted in making assumptions and taking things personally.
Action is about living fully. Inaction is the way that we deny life. Inaction is sitting in front of the television every day for years because you are afraid to be alive and to take the risk of expressing what you are.
Everyone has the ability to manifest their vision.
With that knowledge, leaders just don’t dream about their goals.
Against all odds, they are able to attract what they want.
They support their dreams with actions, put forth the time and energy towards their goals. They watch what they say to themselves about themselves.
We have all heard of the Law of Attraction.
It consists in bringing your deepest desires into reality by focusing your thoughts on them. To manifest your vision, you have to strongly believe that this is what you really want and this is your true purpose.
For example, you can manifest the perfect relationship or on the job you want by focusing positive thoughts and sending positive intentions its way.
Be honest with yourself because the truth will set you free.
Everything around is only a reflection of who you truly are. So be who you want go attract.
If you are not aware of your strengths and weaknesses, you will not achieve your goals.
If you are not an improved person you cannot expect the best of the best. You will only get the best for your level.
They are always grateful for what they have no matter how small their possession.
They let go of control and are open to receive what is coming to them.
You can cultivate the habit of making a gratitude list. A simple list can be:
I am grateful for the clothes on my back.
I am grateful to be alive.
I am grateful for my serenity.
I am grateful for my health.
I am grateful for my team and business.
After writing your list, read it everyday and change your mindset instantly.
Leaders are naturally dreamers.
They allow themselves to dream big.
They use their imagination for their benefit.
Indeed, your imagination is the best tool that you have at your disposal that nobody can take away from you.
Leaders use their imaginations all the time to escape, to motivate their team and to build products, companies.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand. - Albert Einstein Click To TweetBecause the universe conspires with you on what you want to attract, they act up as if they have already achieved their required level if success.
They fake it until they make it. For example, they will dress for the position they want to have.
Leaders place their focus on the essentials.
Furthermore, they focus on themselves and don’t compete with others.
They understand that whatever they put their attention on is what is going to grow.
They have a vision or dream board that help them see things more clearly.
They tend to place them in the area that you can always see and visualize yourself in that situation.
They trust their intuition.
They listen to their feelings and do whatever resonates with them.
If they have negative vibes about a situation, they immediately take a step back and analyze the situation.
They meditate and actively monitor their thoughts.
When a thought comes through that bring up negative emotions, they are instantly aware. Then they fight their negative voice in their head or sleep to give their mind a rest or exercise to get rid of cortisol.
In addition, leaders constantly elevate their own mood. To make themselves feel better, they use positive words of affirmation.
To elevate your mood, you can read books that comfort you and make you feel better about yourself.
You can carefully choose your activities, music and TV shows, screen what you put in your mind because it programs you.
They are conscious of their personal power and are at peace with themselves.
Furthermore, they walk with integrity, don’t harm anyone and mind their actions. They believe that what they put out is what they will come back to them.
They are conceived that they will succeed. They are cognizant that something great is on its way.
They don’t set your thoughts on want is missing or on want others want from them.
They are not easily offended or don’t think that they are victims of their circumstances.
They are conscious of the power of their words and choose their words carefully.
Indeed, if you say, “I’m so tired” you will eventually be exhausted for the whole day. If you say, “I’m stressed out” you will definitively be overwhelmed by stress.
To manifest what you really want, start saying and doing how you want to feel and what you want to do.
They care for people other than themselves.
The process of caring for others take them out of their negative space and environment.
For instance, they help their team and people in their communities.
When things are not going your way or you are not achieving your goals, know that you can always turn things around, improve your mindset, achieve your purpose and find your peace.
Fight negativity. Show yourself some love.
Hope that I’ve helped you get it together on your way to leadership!

There are a few strategies to keep your composure and maintain a sense of self.
Adverse situations are necessary and often come out of the blue.
Sometimes, the situation is not as bad as it seems.
The first step is to identify the origin of the situation and the possible outcomes.
Then, assess the criticality of the situation.
Finally, come up with different potential solutions to your problem.
Once, you have assessed the situation, it is detrimental to accept your reality, let go of the past and rework your perceptions of adversity.
You can tell yourself that there are always solutions to a problem, that your situation is not as bad as it seems, is only temporary, or can be an opportunity in disguise.
In addition, to change your mindset:
Staying organized and focused will help you gain more control over your situation.
Adversity makes everything seems out of control and generates a lot of extreme emotions.
Keeping your composure requires a lot of emotional discipline. To do so, take care of your mind, body and soul.
Exercise to keep your confidence up and to quiet your mind.
To stay positive, you must keep your goals and your vision alive.

It is important for you to know when it is time to move on.

All leaders have a clear vision for their lives.
They are willing to go through tough waters to achieve their vision.
However, they know that the greater their vision, the greater the focus needed, the greater the risks taken, and hopefully, the greater the reward.
Taking risks means stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Furthermore, risk taking is an inherent human trait and plays a major part in the life of leaders.
Risk taking may depend on the leader’s age, generation and financial background.
Risk taking is contagious. When your team sees you initiating risks and stepping out of your comfort zone, they ble will feel more comfortable doing the same.
For the past few years, risk taking has been treated like a disease.
Nowadays, taking risks is valued because it provides opportunities even though the consequences can be disastrous.
I believe that the old saying “with high risks come high rewards” is still defensible.
Taking risks is not reckless as long as they are calculated.
Some people try to avoid risks and others fearlessly walk straight into it.
However, leaders are willing and obligated to take risks.
The key rewards of risk taking as a leader include longevity, meaningful experiences, increased finance, and a more motivated, loyal and trustworthy team.
People don’t take risks simply because of fear. They are generally afraid of failure, of success, of being vulnerable, being wrong, or admitting their errors and limits.
Risk taking can be an effective leadership strategy. To take calculated risks:
In life as in work, risk is inevitable just like failure is. Remember:
Let me know when was the last time you have taken risks and what was your reward?
Hope that I’ve helped you get it together on your way to leadership!
